Overview
At Topeka Habitat for Humanity they build because they believe that everyone should have a healthy, affordable place to call home. More than building homes, we build communities, we build hope, and we build the opportunity for families to help themselves.
Since 1984 they have built 113 houses and renovated or repaired hundreds more. Topeka Habitat for Humanity builds strong and stable neighborhoods by building strong and stable homes.
To break the cycle of poverty, low and medium income individuals and families need their income spent on housing that provides a decent, affordable place to thrive and build wealth through home ownership.
The Mission
To promote affordable housing for low-income individuals in Shawnee County.
The Vision
A community where everyone has a decent place to live.
Strength
A Topeka Habitat home provides a strong foundation for individuals and families—an opportunity on which they can build a better life. Families in need of a decent place to live build safe and affordable homes in partnership with Topeka Habitat for Humanity.
Stability
Strong and stable homes help build strong and stable communities. Topeka Habitat families are empowered to overcome the barriers that so often stand between their families and better, healthier, more financially stable lives.
Self-Reliance
With a little help, Topeka Habitat homeowners are able to achieve the strength and self-reliance they need to build better lives for themselves and their families. Research shows a direct correlation between housing quality and the well-being of children. Surveys of Topeka Habitat homeowners show improved grades, better financial health, and parents who are more sure they can meet their family’s needs.
Shelter
Decent shelter provides the solid foundation for all of this. It’s the platform on which a family lives out today’s realities and prepares for tomorrow’s transformations. Every Topeka Habitat house changes lives: those of the families who help build them and pay an affordable mortgage or loan and all those who offer them a hand up in a time of need.
